A controlled explosion has been carried out on what the police have described as a "crude device" in County Tyrone.
A shopkeeper found the suspicious device near a petrol station in Ballymagorry close to Strabane at about 1830 BST on Monday.
Police issued an appeal for keyholders to check their premises, following concerns about possible other devices in the area.
Later on Monday, a number of homes were evacuated following an alert in Londonderry.
A suspicious object was found on the Crescent Link in the Waterside area.
The Army carried out a controlled explosion on the object which was later declared a hoax.
In Belfast, two pipe bombs were found in a derelict house on Donegall Avenue in the south of the city.
The find on Monday evening happened less than 24 hours after a pipe bomb attack in a different house on the same street.
Police said they were investigating a number of lines of inquiry in relation to the discovery.
Meanwhile, police officers have been carrying out searches at addresses across north and south Belfast.
One of the areas being searched is the lower Ormeau.
It is believed the security operation is in connection with dissident republican activity.
