Murder police quiz commuters

Police are questioning rush hour commuters and train drivers five weeks after a murder in south-east London.

Passengers at Waterloo and Waterloo East train station will be asked on Tuesday if they remember a man with a dog seen at the station on 27 May.

He was spotted on a train hours after 30-year-old web designer Brett Youngs was found dead in a squat in Northbrook Road, Lewisham.

Mr Youngs died from head injuries and the flat had been set alight. His body was found by firefighters.

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Dell said: "We are hoping to hear from anyone who remembers a man with a big brown dog travelling on a train which arrived at Waterloo East around 0720 BST on the morning on 27 May.

Arrest made

"At this stage, we are not certain which route that train had taken but it would have been from Kent/south east London direction.

"The man walked from Waterloo East to the main Waterloo station and took another train from there. "

"At that time of the morning, trains are not normally too packed and, as he was travelling with a big brown dog, we are sure someone must have seen him and remember him."

On 28 May a 25-year-old man from Surrey was arrested in connection with the inquiry and bailed to return to a south London police station.

The man police are searching for is in his mid-20s, white and dressed in casual clothes.
