'White directory' angers shopkeepers
A still of the website
The website says it is acting in the spirit of community support
Shops and businesses have said they are horrified their names have been posted on a website that promotes whites-only firms.

Their details appear, without their permission, on the British White Directory.

The site says it is no different to others that promote ethnic businesses.

The Breadstore is one of 12 Bristol businesses on the directory. Marcus Wells, from the company, said: "I would not want to go along with these sentiments at all."

It is openly xenophobic and racist. Multi-racial shopping, restaurants and clubs enrich the community

A petrol station is also featured - with the comment that the previous Asian owners have moved on and a white family has taken over.

And there is praise for a medical centre with all-white doctors.

Chris Born, chief executive of the Bristol North PCT, told the BBC: "I think they would be extremely concerned to find themselves on this list as they treat all their patients equally and are ready to be as open as possible to any recruit who wants to work there."

All the Bristol businesses appear to have been put on by the same individual.

Host investigation

The site states: "There are many websites designed specifically and exclusively to help other folk groups to patronise businesses within their own ethnic communities.

"With the same spirit of community support, we decided that our own people might also appreciate access to similar information about their communities."

Batook Pandya, director of the Bristol charity Support Against Racist Incidents, added: "It's openly xenophobic and racist. Multi-racial shopping, restaurants and clubs enrich the community."

It is not clear who owns the website, but the firm which hosts the site told BBC News Online it is looking into whether the website breaks its terms of service.
