Girl escapes 'abductor'

Police in Sussex are hunting a man who tried to abduct a 14-year-old girl as she walked to school.

The teenager was at the junction of Whatlington Way and Crowhurst Road in St Leonards when the incident happened on Thursday at 0855 BST.

Police said a car stopped near the girl and she saw a man get out who then shouted to her.

A police spokesman said: "The young girl carried on walking but then became aware of him behind her."

Dirty-looking car

The man caught up with the teenager and forcefully grabbed at her arm, the police spokesman said.

He tried to pull her towards him but the girl put up a fight, managed to break free and ran off.

Police said the man is aged between 30 and 40 years old and is between 5 ft 4 in and 5 ft 9 in tall.

He is described as tanned, skinny and was wearing a dark blue baseball cap a faded red top and dark blue tracksuit bottoms which had three white stripes down them.

The car is described as dirty-looking, a mid blue colour and had either four or five doors.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police.
