Man beaten during robbery
Home of man attacked by thieves
The victim was in bed at his Dorchester Drive home

A businessman has been beaten with hammers during a burglary in Glengormley near Belfast.

The 53-year-old victim was in bed at his home in Dorchester Drive when he heard a noise on the landing at about 0300 BST on Friday.

He went to investigate and was attacked by two men armed with hammers.

His 46-year-old wife and one of his sons, who is in his 20s, were kicked when they tried to help him.

The man's 11-year-old son and six-year-old daughter were also in the house at the time. They were not hurt.

The thieves escaped with money, jewellery and mobile phones.

The victim is in a stable condition in hospital with a broken leg and head injuries.

The family, who own a Chinese restaurant in Glengormley, have lived in the house for 14 years.

They say it is too early to decide if they will stay or move elsewhere.

The police have appealed for anyone with any information about the incident to contact them at Newtownabbey station on 90 650222.
