The security forces in Pakistan have arrested a man who they say is an important al-Qaeda activist.
Officials say Pakistani security personnel accompanied by American FBI agents made the arrest after stopping a car 30 kilometres from Karachi on the basis of a tip-off.
They say the man, Haffan al-Hasham, was involved in al-Qaeda's communications network.
A satellite phone and some computer discs were confiscated from him.
