An investigation has been launched to try and find out how a light aircraft crashed near Shipdham Airfield killing the pilot.

On Monday, Norfolk Police named Broderick "Brod" Pit-Steele as the pilot who died after his auto gyro crashed.

Mr Pit-Steele was an experienced amateur pilot, who had clocked up 400 hours of flying time.

He was a member of both the Old Buckenham and Felthorpe flying clubs.

His auto gyro came down in a farmer's field next to the Airfield just before 1400 BST on Sunday.

Fire crews were called

Another pilot who saw the crash and raised the alarm.

Police said if no-one had alerted the emergency services, it may have been some time before they realised anything was wrong.

Three fire crews were called out from Watton, Dereham and Norwich, but they had difficulty reaching the crash site to make it safe.

Air accident investigators have been sent to the crash site.
