A man is facing a total of 16 charges following a high-speed car chase through west Belfast in which seven police officers were injured.

Kevin Phillips, 19, from Glencolin Court, in Belfast, was remanded in custody when he appeared at the city's Magistrates Court on Friday.

He was charged with assaulting the seven officers, one of whom was dragged across the Springfield Road after the driver of a car sped away from a police road block.

The other officers were injured when their police vehicles were rammed by the car.

The rest of the charges relate to motoring offences and include driving while unfit through drink or drugs, driving while disqualified, dangerous driving and damaging two police Land Rovers and a police car.
