Arrest after pedestrian dies
A young driver has been arrested after a man died following a collision with a car in Shrewsbury.

The incident happened just after midnight on Sunday outside the Harlescott Pub, in Whitchurch Road, Shrewsbury.

A man, thought to be aged in his early 30s, was hit by a car as he crossed the road.

He was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but died shortly after.

The driver, aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.

The crash follows two other fatal smashes over the weekend.
