The National Lottery is paying for a major refit of one of the biggest theatres in the East Midlands.
The renovation of the Nottingham Playhouse will cost £1.8m and is the most extensive revamp of the theatre since opened 40 years ago.
The £1.2m from the Heritage Lottery Fund will be used to restore some of the original design features at the theatre.
Playhouse spokesman Ioan Reed-Aspley says the works will include a complete refit of the bar and restaurant at the theatre - known for its Christmas pantomimes as well as more serious drama.
Stephanie Sirr, Nottingham Playhouse's chief executive, said: "The Playhouse is one of the few 20th Century buildings in the country with listed status - and we need to ensure it continues to look as eye-catching as it did in 1963."
The work will take place between August and November this year.
The theatre will have improved toilet facilities and better disabled access, and new public spaces on the lower foyer.
