Detectives hunting for a woman from Cumbria who vanished in Bali are flying back to the UK after carrying out inquiries on the island.
Aid worker Kate Osborne, 35, from Carlisle, has not been seen since 18 April.
Detective Chief Inspector Bill Whitehead of Cumbria Police, and a colleague, travelled to Bali on 15 June, along with Ms Osborne's parents Liz and Patrick.
It was hoped the trip would help reveal the whereabouts of Miss Osborne and her long-term Peruvian boyfriend Jose Henricci.
A spokesman for Cumbria Police told BBC News Online: "They are flying back from Bali on Wednesday.
"As far as the detectives are concerned, they have followed up and exhausted as many lines of inquiry in Bali as they can.
'Extreme conditions'
"They feel they have done as much as they can by having a physical presence on the ground.
"It has been very difficult work, coping with the language, culture, and heat. It has been a gruelling time for everyone concerned, working for consecutive days in extreme physical conditions.
"We are still trying to find Mr Henricci, and are liaising with police in Peru in case he is there.
"Ourselves and the Bali police very much want to talk to him to see if he can shed light on Ms Osborne's whereabouts.
"We will remain in contact with police in Bali - even though it is a missing British person, it is their inquiry and we can only assist them, not take the lead in the case."
French lodger
Mr and Mrs Osborne had wanted to visit the flat of their daughter, who moved to Bali almost four years to teach English.
The two detectives also spoke to Miss Osborne's Peruvian maid and her French lodger, who has now been ruled out of their inquiry.
Miss Osborne was working as a translator for several international aid agencies in the wake of the terror bombing on the island in October 2002.
