Ex-head denies misconduct claims
A former headmaster at a children's home training school has denied failing to act on reports of sexual abuse made by boys in his care.

George Meanwell, 79, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday charged with 18 offences allegedly committed between 1971 and 1982.

Mr Meanwell, from Harborne, Birmingham, faces 15 counts of misconduct in a public office and three counts of assault.

The defendant spoke only to deny the allegations, which were made by 14 boys who were in his care during his tenure at the centre.

Mr Meanwell was granted unconditional bail and the case was adjourned for a further hearing at the end of July.
