Oldest lottery winner picks up £2.3m
Reginald Smith celebrating his win
Reginald Smith said he would have liked the money 20 years ago
The oldest lottery winner to go public with the news has picked up a cheque for more than £2.3m.

Reginald Smith, 85, from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, chose all six numbers in last Saturday's draw, which was a rollover.

He was presented with his cheque on Wednesday at Uttoxeter Racecourse, where he used to work as car park attendant.

Mr Smith, who has four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, said he now planned to take his family on holiday to Canada.

Daughter's disbelief

He told the BBC's Midlands Today programme that he could not believe he had won.

"I thought I'd better check my numbers. I was checking them and I got to three and I thought I've won £10 - I'm alright.

"Then when the other three came up I could have nearly dropped through the floor.

"I rang my daughter up. She said 'No dad you silly old fool, you've not won anything'."

Mr Smith added: "I would have liked it to have happened about 20 or 30 years ago, but there you are."
