Bath's Royal United Hospital has been granted £94,000 of funding to investigate better access and treatment for its patients.
The project - called Action On Urology - incorporates ideas such as developing a system where general practitioners can electronically refer and book urology appointments.
It also allows more routine tests to be carried out in the community so that patients do not have to travel to Bath.
New surgical techniques will allow 40% of patients to be treated as day cases.

University's alternative careers fair
A careers fair at Bath University this week aims to give students advice about jobs outside the mainstream.
Instead of focusing on traditional jobs in big businesses, it will give students advice about more unusual employers.
There will be talks about working for charities, in international development and the media.
The event has been organised by the student union and many of the presentations will be given by Bath graduates.
