States to debate future government
Beau Sejour
The debate at Beau Sejour is scheduled to last for three days

Guernsey's States are to debate 300 changes to the way the island is governed.

A total of 36 amendments have been lodged to the Advisory and Finance Committee's proposals.

The politician bringing the most amendments, Deputy Roy Bisson, said all the options had to be considered before far-reaching decisions were made.

Deputy Bisson justified the 10 amendments he is bringing by saying this week's meeting was the one and only opportunity to get it right.

Deputy Bisson's proposals include having six States members on each of the new Departments, instead of four, and the distribution of Housing and Public Service Department responsibilities to other departments.

The special sitting of the States to decide the way the island is governed in future begins at Beau Sejour on Wednesday and is scheduled to last for three days.
