Vandals attack skating ramp

Young people will have nowhere to practice

Young people in Mountsorrel are angry after a skate ramp was destroyed by vandals.

The half pipe ramp was put up in the village to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Over the past two weeks vandals have repeatedly attacked it, ripping the safety rails off and making huge holes in the pipe.

The ramp on Halstead Road playing fields cost £12,500 in council and lottery cash.

Safety reasons

The parish council has been forced to remove the ramp altogether for safety reasons.

It does not intend to replace it.

Young people say they will be forced to skate on the streets again instead.

Joanna Clarke a youth worker in the village described feelings there "They are angry and they are saddened and quite appalled.

"There is a mixture of emotions.

"The majority of young people feel angry and quite powerless about it."
