Balloon crash victim in hospital

A doctor who was knocked unconscious when his hot-air balloon crashed into power cables before exploding into flames remains in hospital.

Consultant, Chris Oakland, 48, was knocked out and stopped breathing when the balloon he was piloting became snagged on high-voltage electric cables near a field off Wickwar Road in Kingswood at 2040 BST on 8 May.

The balloon is believed to have been attempting to land when the accident happened.

After the collision, the crew refloated the balloon before crash-landing.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene and the three injured parties were taken to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol for treatment.

Two were released after minor treament and a hospital spokeswoman said Mr Oakland was in a stable condition.
