Police appeal after armed robbery

Police are appealing for information following an armed robbery on Teesside.

Two men entered the ex-servicemens club in Queens Avenue, Thornaby, brandishing a shot gun and demanded money from staff at about 2230 BST on Friday.

No-one was injured in the incident but the men made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A man and a woman were arrested and taken to Stockton police station, but the woman was later released without charge.

Police operation

The man was charged in connection with the robbery and is due to appear before magistrates on Monday.

Two men were also arrested following a police operation in the Grovehill area of Middlesbrough on Sunday morning.

They are being questioned in connection with the robbery at a police station in the Cleveland police force area.

The man with the gun was described as being over 6ft tall, of large build, and was wearing a blue jacket, jeans and a white crash helmet.

The second man was also described as being 6ft tall and was wearing a balaclava.
