A man has been charged with dangerous driving after a hit-and-run incident in Stoke-on-Trent.

A 31-year-old woman is in a critical condition after she and her two-year-old son were trapped underneath a car just after 1100 BST on Sunday in Richmond Terrace in Shelton.

Her son's condition is described as poorly.

A 27-year-old man is due to appear before Stoke-on-Trent Magistrates on Tuesday.

They are both being treated at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for anyone who saw a green Rover car in the area at that time to contact them.
