Leisure plans opposed

Opposition is mounting to plans for a multi-million pound sports, leisure and entertainment complex in Redditch.

Residents of Abbey Park, Birmingham Road and Dagnell End Road are concerned that the £50m Abbey Stadium project will have a negative impact on the area.

They have said that the development, which is to include a snow dome, ice rink and cinema, will cause traffic problems in the area.

The snow dome has also been described as an eyesore and there is concern about extra noise, especially at weekends.

Some residents have also complained the plans have been amended since they first went on display, creating an even bigger development than was first promised.

Supporters of the project say it will give a huge boost to the local economy as well as providing much-needed facilities for young people in Redditch.
