Woman killed in fire
An elderly woman has been killed and her husband seriously injured in a fire at their Surrey home.

Firefighters were still tackling the flames at the house in Evelyn Way, Stoke D'Abernon, near Cobham, on Tuesday evening.

The man, who was in his 70s, escaped from the two-storey building but suffered serious burns.

The elderly woman was found dead at the scene, Surrey Police said.

Treated as suspicious

A spokesman for Surrey Ambulance service said: "When we arrived at the house it was well alight.

"There was one elderly gentleman who has been subsequently taken to Epsom Hospital suffering from serious burns - about 50%."

About 30 firefighters from Surrey Fire and Rescue were called to the fire after the alarm was raised at 1540 BST.

A Surrey Police spokesman said officers had attended and the fire was being treated as suspicious.

She was unable to release the names of the man and his wife.
