Man charged after knife incident

A 39-year-old man has been charged with assault after allegedly threatening his partner with several knives.

The incident happened at 2130 BST on Saturday in the South Cliff area of Scarborough.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said officers attended the scene after reports of a violent domestic incident, where a man was threatening to harm his partner.

The woman escaped with two children unharmed.

The streets were cordoned off while officers wearing protective clothing and carrying shields, backed up by armed police, entered the building.

The man is due to appear before magistrates in Scarborough on Monday.
