Roy Whiting
Tregaskis is accused of attacking Whiting in Wakefield Prison
A man has appeared in court accused of attacking Sarah Payne's killer Roy Whiting.

Rickie Tregaskis, 34, faced a charge of wounding with intent during his brief appearance at Leeds Magistrates' Court.

Whiting was jailed for life in 2001 for the murder of the schoolgirl Sarah Payne.

The eight-year-old disappeared while playing near her grandparents' home in Kingston Gorse, West Sussex, in July 2000.

Her body was found in nearby Pulborough 17 days later.

Tregaskis is accused of attacking Whiting in Wakefield Prison on 4 August 2002.

He spoke only to confirm his name and age during the hearing and was remanded in custody to HM Prison Long Lartin in Worcestershire.

Tregaskis is due to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 22 July.
