Something to shout about
A town crier
Criers from Australia, Belgium and Canada will be in Newquay for the event

Residents of a Cornish town will be treated to some ear-splitting entertainment when the10th World Town Crier Championships gets under way on Sunday.

More than 100 criers from across the world are in Newquay for the week-long event.

Criers from Australia, Belgium and Canada are amongst the competitors who will be vying for the world title.

Contestants will be given the chance to expand their lungs and tell all the joys of their home town as well as a cry on the subject of Cornwall.

Cornish hospitality

The third and final discipline will be a free cry on any subject of their choosing.

They have a hectic schedule but will find time to sample traditional Cornish hospitality.

During the week-long competition criers and their escorts will visit the Eden Project, enjoy locally-produced foods and sample Cornish hospitality.

Cornwall's Lord Lieutenant Lady Mary Holborow will open the championships with a grand parade of criers at 1400 BST from Hilgrove Road to Killacourt in the town.
