Biker jailed for 'outrageous' driving
Motorcyclist who reached 100mph as he tried to shake off pursuing police has been jailed.

Jailing Sukhdeep Sembhi for 12 months Judge Terence Maher told him: "Your driving was criminally irresponsible and absolutely outrageous."

Sembhi, 22, of Ouseland Road, Bedford, was spotted by officers riding the motorbike, which he had bought that day.

The rear wheel was buckled and the number plate was too small, Luton Crown Court heard.

Cannabis and cocaine

Rosa Dean, prosecuting, said Sembhi refused to stop and as officers chased him in Biddenham and Bedford he overtook cars and forced another to swerve onto the footpath.

At one point he was travelling at 60mph a 30mph zone.

As he headed into Biddenham, Sembhi reached 100mph before crashing.

He threw his helmet at police before running off, but was later arrested.

When he was caught police found 1.5 grammes of cannabis on him and at the police station a rock of crack cocaine weighing 195 milligrammes was found in a glove.

Driving like an idiot

Sembhi told officers the drug was for his personal use. He admitted he had been driving like an idiot.

He gave officers a false name which led to another man appearing in court. He was subsequently acquitted in October and Sembhi was arrested in March this year.

Sembhi appeared for sentence having admitted dangerous driving, having no insurance, possessing crack cocaine and cannabis and perverting the course of justice in March last year.

Defence barrister Jonathan Green said Sembhi was well aware of the stupidity of his actions. Fortunately, he said, nobody had been injured.
