Gunman makes off with cigarette packet

A masked raider armed with a handgun robbed an off-licence for a packet of cigarettes, police have said.

The incident took place at Thresher's Wine Shop on Sandygate Road in Sheffield at 2130 BST on Friday.

The raider threatened the shop assistant with a gun before grabbing a packet of cigarettes and making off.

Police say the sales assistant was shaken but unharmed and are appealing for witnesses.

The intruder is described as white, 6ft 2, slim build, wearing a ski mask and dark jeans.

Footpath attack

In a separate incident, a 57-year-old Sheffield man was robbed of several hundred pounds.

He left the Duke of York pub in Darnall at 1700 BST on Friday when he was attacked by two men on a footpath at High Hazel Park, off Logan Road.

The man was left in a distressed state and suffered minor injuries.

The attackers are described as white, in their late teens/early twenties, one was slim and the other plump.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
