A teacher had to be rescued from a school roof by firefighters, following a fire in the assembly hall.
South Wales Fire Service rescued the teacher at St Julian's Comprehensive School in Newport, south
Wales, on Friday, after the blaze broke out.
Gwent Police say they are treating the fire as suspicious.
Students had been due to sit their SAT tests at the school, but these were postponed
because of the fire.
A Gwent Police spokesman said the cost of the damage was likely to run into
thousands of pounds.
"There is substantial fire, smoke and water damage to the stage area in the
exam hall," he said.
"We are treating the fire as suspicious."
South Wales Fire Service confirmed that one person had to be rescued from the roof of
the building using a ladder during the incident.
