Girl out of intensive care

The child is being treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital
A five-year-old Londonderry girl who was seriously injured in a road accident which killed her father is out of intensive care.

Odran McKinney, 39, from Saint Eithnes Park in the city was walking along the Clooney Road near Eglinton with his daughter, Rachel, when they were struck by a lorry.

The accident happened near the Faughan Bridge at about 1600 BST last Wednesday.

Mr McKinney died later in hospital.

Rachael was initially treated at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry but later transferred to the the intensive care unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

She is still recovering from head injuries at the Belfast hospital.

On Friday, Fr Michael McCaughey told mourners at Mr McKinney's funeral that the family was devastated by Odran's death and everyone was praying for Rachel's full recovery.

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
