Man charged with daughter's murder

A man has appeared in court charged with murdering his 13-year-old daughter.

The body of Jalpa Patel was found in the bath in her home in Croydon, south London.

A postmortem examination carried out on Sunday found she had drowned.

Her father Suryakant Patel, 50, of Darley Close, Croydon, was remanded into custody when appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

His next appearance will be at the Old Bailey on a date to be confirmed.

Police began the murder inquiry after being called to an address in Darley Close, at 1914 BST on Saturday where they found the body.
