Scheme to boost staff skills
Eden Project
Eden is one of the biggest tourism employers in Cornwall
An attempt is to be made to improve the skills of staff working in Cornwall's multi-million pound tourism industry.

The aim is to develop a well-trained workforce to meet the growing expectations of visitors to the county.

Tourism leaders say top quality staff are needed to match prestigious attractions like the Eden Project and the National Maritime Museum.

A three-year plan is being launched by Cornwall's Tourism Skills Network to improve skills in the county's hospitality and tourism industry.

Improve recruitment

Tourism officials say a more proficient and better prepared workforce is a key factor to future success.

The Network will target small and medium-size businesses.

The objective is to improve recruitment, introduce better training and retain more staff.

Priscilla Samuel has been appointed as project co-ordinator.

She said the industry had an excellent opportunity to build on Cornwall's growing reputation as a high quality tourism destination.
