The parents of a 12-year-old boy from Merseyside who was badly injured in a hit-and-run accident have appealed for the driver to come forward.
Liam Abbot was knocked down on Poulton Road near his home in Wallasey on Bank Holiday Monday.
He only regained consciousness in the early hours of Friday morning.
He is still being cared for by doctors at Liverpool's Alder Hey Children's Hospital where he had been on a ventilator.
Liam suffered head, chest, shoulder and leg injuries when he was hit by the red Ford Mondeo or Sierra.
'Left for dead'
His mother, Lorraine Abbot, said: "It's just your worst nightmare. You just never expect it to happen to your own child.
"If you run a dog over you've got to notify the police - that's a human being that they left for dead in the gutter, basically.
"If they'd have seen what Liam has gone through and all of his family - well, I hope their conscience gets the better of them."
Police were examining a red car found burnt out in Kirkby on Friday but said it was too early to say whether it was the car involved in the collision.
