Ken's beat around the Bush

Ken Livingstone called America President corrupt

Ken Livingstone's astonishing outburst against the American administration caused more of a stir among London's tourist industry than it did in the White House.

The US President's spokesman said he has never heard of the London Mayor.

And he added he was not going to dignify the attack with a response.

Critics

Back in London, a frenzy was caused inside City Hall as assembly members and future mayoral candidates lined up to criticise the Mayor's jibes.

Steve Norris, Conservative mayoral candidate, said it could have an impact on the number of Americans travelling to Britain.

Mr Livingstone rejected this. It was as ridiculous as thinking British tourists are put off holiday destinations because of the opinions held by the local politicians, he explained.

Not in front of the children!

The session started as a chance for delegates from selected schools and colleges across London to question their Mayor.

But Mr Livingstone seized on a question about Mr Blair's close relationship with Mr Bush to open fire on the Republican administration

There's a chance to catch the whole question time session on BBC Parliament from 1100 BST on Monday 12 May
