Conference tackles alcohol abuse
The links between alcohol abuse and crime will be discussed at a major conference in the north-east of England.

The conference, organised by the Safe in Tees Valley Community Safety Partnership, will feature experts from all over the world.

Speakers will confirm research which says alcohol abuse affects more people in the UK than drugs misuse.

John Bentley, the programme director for the partnership, said: "The links between crime and the misuse of alcohol are well established.

"This conference is an opportunity to raise the profile of the issues and explore the possibility of regional responses."

The conference, to be held in Newcastle on 26 June, will feature speakers from the World Health organisation, alcohol abuse agencies, police and representatives from the drinks industry.
