Balloon crashes after striking power lines

Three people are in hospital after a hot-air balloon collided with power cables near Wotton-under-Edge.

The balloon is believed to have been attempting to land when the accident happened.

After the collision, the crew refloated the balloon before crash-landing.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene and the three injured parties were taken to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol for treatment.

Investigation

A 48-year-old Bristol man is believed to have suffered electric shock and burn injuries.

A male passenger suffered minor facial injuries and a female passenger suffered shock.

The accident happened near a field off Wickwar Road in Kingswood at 2040 BST on 8 May.

The Department for Transport's Air Accident Investigation Branch has launched an investigation.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
