Detectives have appealed for help to find a man who fired two shots and assaulted another man after a boxing event.
The 34-year-old victim was left with severe bruising after he was kicked and beaten on the ground in the attack at the Effingham Park Hotel in Copthorne, Surrey.
Two shots were fired at about 0100 BST on Saturday but neither actually hit the victim, Surrey Police said.
He was taken to East Surrey Hospital and released after observations later that day.
A police spokeswoman said detectives were continuing to talk to staff and other guests at the function.
Officers were also keen to speak to anyone else who witnessed the attack.
So far no arrests have been made and the victim has refused to make a statement, the spokeswoman said.
