Man jailed over bus killing
Brian McCormack
McCormack admitted killing Jolyon
A 20-year-old man has been jailed for four years for killing a 28-year-old man while he was travelling home from a night out.

Brian McCormack from Fallowfield admitted the manslaughter of Jolyon Griffin after hitting him on the back of the head with an empty glass on a bus just before Christmas last year.

Mr Griffin, from Bramhall, Stockport was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary after being injured and was later transferred to Hope Hospital.

He died on Christmas Day, after being in a coma for 11 days.

His father John said the sentence was an insult to the memory of his son, and a "yobs' charter".

McCormack, of Headingley Road, admitted manslaughter at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square, on Monday.

Speaking outside court after the sentence was handed out, Mr Griffin said the it was disgraceful.

"We have not got justice," he said, adding they had to sit and watch their son die.

Detective Superintendent Peter Minshall of Greater Manchester Police said: "Despite the fact we caught the man responsible... it does not ease the pain for Jolyon's family.

"I just hope that they will be able to start moving on now that McCormack is in behind bars.

"Instead of celebrating Christmas his friends and family spent their time visiting Jolyon in hospital in the hope that he would recover.

"However, Jolyon died on Christmas Day surrounded by his loved ones."

Mr Griffin, who worked in IT for Shell, had been to watch a band in Manchester before catching the number 42 bus from Oxford Road to East Didsbury in the early hours of Saturday 14 December.

Speaking just after his death, Mr Griffin's father said his son was a lively man who had brought joy to the family.
