Man in court over teen killing
The Brewery Tap pub, Reading
The teenager managed to catch a taxi home despite his injuries

A man has appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of a teenager in a Reading pub.

Thomas Jalland, 26, of Hamilton Road, Reading, faced magistrates in the town on Thursday and must now go to crown court.

Nicholas Pengelly, 19, from Southcote, Reading, died on 27 April after he was assaulted the night before in the Brewery Tap Pub in Castle Street.

Police believe Mr Pengelly managed to leave the pub with his injuries and catch a taxi back to his home.

His housemate called an ambulance at around 2300 BST, but the victim died in hospital early the next day.

A statement from Mr Pengelly's family said: "Nicholas was a much-loved son, grandson, brother, uncle and good friend to many.

"He was only 19 years old and the whole family is devastated by such a tragic loss."
