Castle staff spent four months learning the art of falconry
|
Workers at a Jersey tourist attraction have been learning falconry in their spare time to provide a new interest for visitors.
Tourists going to Mont Orgueil Castle will be able to see demonstrations with birds of prey and hear about the history of the skill.
Two birds of prey are being used in the demonstrations.
Kiah is an eight-year-old common buzzard and Jazz is a young Harris Hawk.
Status symbol
Staff from the Jersey Heritage Trust have been taught how to be falconers.
They spent about four months at evenings and weekends learning about the birds.
In medieval times, the bird that a person owned was a status symbol, with keeping a bird above your station an offence punishable by death.
The bird demonstrations can be seen every weekday between 1100 and 1500 BST.
