A man was recovering in hospital on Monday after being stabbed by a burglar.
The 54-year-old was in a serious condition after the incident near Salford, Greater Manchester.
He was house-sitting his brother's home in Lyndon Road, Irlam, when the intruder broke in at about 0440 BST on Saturday.
A struggle broke out which ended with the man being stabbed.
The intruder was described as being in his early 20s, slim, with short blond hair, and about 5 ft 8 in tall.
Greater Manchester Police said he spoke with a local accent and was wearing a light coloured T-shirt.
Witnesses, or anyone who has information about the break-in, should contact CID at Eccles police station or ring Crimestoppers.
