Making a big impression
Alistair McGowan
Alistair McGowan or is that David Seaman?
His repertoire of impersonations stretches to more than a hundred, and the first part of his new series will introduce us to some new characters.

Alistair McGowan's Big Impression returns to BBC One tonight and we can expect to see some of the old characters joined by some new ones.

  • Alistair McGowan was live on Breakfast talking about his new series

Alistair McGowan's talents have seen him win Best Comedy Entertainment Award at the British Comedy Awards 2000 and Best Entertainment Programme at Broadcast Awards 2001 for his series Alistair McGowan's Big Impression.

But in the new series Alistair and Ronni create a surreal scenario with Manchester football players mixing with the New York girls in 'Sex and Man City'.

Another encounter sees Posh & Becks and Sharon & Ozzy Osborne get together in their own version of the hit TV show 'Wife Swap'.

Sport lover Alistair says he never really took people off at school, he was preoccupied with his studies.

He started doing impressions when he was studying at Leeds University, saying he was inspired by the range of accents around him and became interested in the things people were saying.

After graduating from Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1989, Alistair began working as a stand-up comic in the clubs.

From 1992 to 1996 provided the voices for many of the characters on Spitting Image, including Tony Blair and Chris Eubank.

He's also done voiceovers for Crapston Villas, as well as appearing in commercials for breakfast cereal and Gino Ginelli ice cream!

In 2001 he completed a very successful run in London's West End in Art, playing Serge.

His television acting saw him as Spock in the BBC series Preston Front and Redwald in ITV's Dark Ages.
