School on song at 25
The Guernsey Music Centre will be celebrating 25 years of making music this week.

The centre is open to all Bailiwick children and currently has seven orchestras, seven wind bands, two jazz orchestras, six choirs and many chamber ensembles.

More than 900 pupils aged between seven and 18 rehearse together every week.

To celebrate its quarter of a century, the Music Centre is holding a four-day festival at St James Concert Hall, starting on Wednesday.

The celebrations continue into July when the three most senior groups from the centre visit Sydney, Australia.

They will be performing in a wide variety of venues including a church, shopping centres and even a cave in the Blue Mountains.

Mervyn Grand, head of the school's music service says the centre has produced many accomplished musicians over the years.

He says the plan is to celebrate in style both in Guernsey and on the other side of the world.
