Family affair in Round Island Race
Round Island Race
The yachts began the race on Saturday morning
The 67th Round the Island Race has been won for a second year by the yacht "Rosina of Beaulieu".

Simon, Kit and David Rogers emulated their father Jeremy's achievement by claiming the prestigious Gold Roman Bowl.

The race around the Isle of Wight attracted 1,595 yachts and top international sailors including Ben Ainslie, Emma Richards, and Shirley Robertson.

Starting at 0630 BST on Saturday the armada was hampered by light winds, with the last yacht passing the finish line just two minutes before the time limit of 2200 BST.

Francis Joyon's ORMA 60 "Eure Loir-Idec" was the first back in Cowes, completing the 55 mile course in 4hrs 5mins.

Winners were decided on a handicap system with the major prizes going to low handicapped boats, all under 35 feet.

Edward Donald's Folkboat "Madelaine" won the Silver Roman Bowl as runner-up, with Martyn Wheatley's H-Boat "Cloud Nine" third.

Both have won the Round the Island Race before.

Five Star Sailing's "Alice of Five Star", a J/109, won the Silver Gilt Roman Bowl as the first boat in the unrated division.
