Facial surgery after attack

A man has undergone complex surgery after part of his nose was bitten off in an attack in Pontypool, south Wales.

Police collected the man's nose and it was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital where the victim was initially treated for his injury.

He was later transferred to Morriston Hospital in Swansea where he underwent micro-surgery but surgeons were unable to re-attach part of his nose.

He will now undergo complex skin grafts.

The attack happened at around 0030BST on Sunday in the Woodlands area of Penygarn, Pontypool.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and is in custody.
