New leads in car shooting
Unett Street, Newtown, Birmingham
The shooting is the second in the last two months

Detectives investigating a drive-by shooting on a Birmingham street say they are following up a number of new leads.

A 44-year-old woman was driving along Unett Street in the Hockley area of the city on Saturday night when a car pulled up alongside her and shots were fired.

The victim was not injured but several bullets hit her car.

The shooting was the second in the street within the past two months and residents are now calling for more police on the beat.

'Eliminate vehicles'

Detective Inspector Tim Bacon, of West Midlands Police, said a number of witnesses had come forward but they are still trying to trace the car used in the shooting.

It has been described as a small, dark hatchback with tinted windows.

He told BBC WM: "We are obviously still looking for the car involved.

"We are actively looking to eliminate vehicles of similar appearance that have come into our inquiry."

Mr Bacon said earlier that he did not know why the woman had been attacked and said police were not speculating on the reason for the attack.
