Schoolboy hit by car

Wade is recovering in Sheffield Children's Hospital
A nine-year-old boy has serious injuries after being struck by a car as he crossed a road.

Wade Beardshaw, of the Handsworth area of Sheffield, had got off a single-decker bus when the accident happened on Good Friday.

The bus had stopped on the B6200 Retford Road, Woodhouse Mill, near the junction with St James' Walk.

Wade crossed in front of the bus and was hit by a green Ford Mondeo, travelling towards Swallow Nest.

A police spokesman said Wade's arms, pelvis, head and leg were seriously injured.

He is being treated in Sheffield Children's Hospital.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses.
