Family appeal over missing aid worker

Kate Osborne's parents may travel to Bali
The parents of a Cumbrian aid worker missing on the holiday island of Bali have revealed their daughter's boyfriend has not been seen since she disappeared.

Kate Osborne, 35, of Carlisle, was last seen by her maid as she left her home for a party on 18 April.

She was working as a translator for several international aid agencies in the wake of the terror bombing on the island in October last year.

At a news conference at Carlisle police station, her parents Patrick, 64, and Liz, 59, said their daughter had planned to go to the nightclub which was hit on the night of the bombing, and where more than 200 people were killed.

They said Kate changed her mind about going to the club that night and after the bombing she decided to use her skills as a translator to help the Bali authorities and bereaved families get in touch.

Mrs Osborne said her daughter was living with a long-term boyfriend, a professional surfer called Jose Henricci.

She said she had never met her daughter's 35-year-old boyfriend, who is from Peru, and had only briefly spoken to him on the telephone.

Mrs Osborne said she last spoke to Kate on 8 April.

"We spoke frequently and she was happy," she said.

Mrs Osborne said that following the Bali bombing, Kate considered returning home and the pair spoke more often.

She added: "But at the end of the day, she said she was happy and she loves the Balinese, who are the most peaceful and gentle people.

"We are exceedingly worried. She's the most loving, charming girl.

"Absolutely everybody who meets Kate is charmed by her and loves her.

"We have to believe she's going to be found."

The couple, who have two other daughters, Christian, 36, and Lucy, 26, plan to go to Bali within the next 10 days.

Mrs Osborne said her "feisty" daughter's relationship with Jose was "volatile".

She said: "They are both passionate people. She told us she wants to marry him."

Detective Chief Inspector Bill Whitehead, of Cumbria police, said he did not have any direct involvement in the investigation other than providing information to the police in Bali.

But he did not rule out going to Bali to help the inquiry depending on how it developed.

Mr Whitehead said there was no evidence of a struggle at Kate's home and her passport had not been found.

Her car was found abandoned near to Bali airport and her dog was left at her home.

Mr Whitehead said if he was in charge of the investigation he would be keen to find and speak to Kate's boyfriend.

He added: "It would be one of the first things we do in this country, as a matter of course."
