A man's body was found in Easton on Thursday.
Police were called after the discovery at 0800 BST of a man, pronounced dead at the scene, in a house on Chelsea Park.
Police have cordoned off the area, including two roads nearby, while officers and forensic experts search for clues and carry out house-to-house inquiries.
The house, which is separated into five bed-sits, accommodates people awaiting the outcome of immigration appeals.
Work is underway to establish the identity of the dead man, and to interview the other occupants of the house.
Police are appealing for anyone who has information about the death, which is being treated as suspicious.
