Holidaymakers held up in major delays caused by a wide load lorry have received an apology from police.
North Wales Police said sorry after 10-mile delays as they escorted the vehicle on the main A55 dual carriageway at the height of the holiday rush.
Officers were escorting the 120 feet long lorry, which took over both lanes on its way to Holyhead on both Thursday and Friday.
The vehicle, carrying the lift shaft for a huge crane, has a top speed of just 16 miles per hour.
"It caused utter chaos and huge traffic jams," said Chief Inspector Lyn Adams.
"We don't allow wide loads over bank holiday periods, but we will be looking at whether it's a good idea to move things so close to holiday periods.
"We apologise unreservedly to motorists caught in the jams," he added.
Continuing delays
The 11 foot-wide lorry could not be moved before this week because of roadworks on the A55 at both Penmaenbach and St Asaph.
It is too big to fit in most lay-bys but has now been taken off the road.
It was due to finish its journey to Holyhead in the early hours of Saturday morning.
North Wales Police started escorting the lorry at about midday on Thursday, but delays continued on Friday, despite attempts to divert traffic across Anglesey.
