Couple arrested after air protest
Birmingham International Airport
The Mobleys flew from Birmingham airport

A Birmingham couple have been arrested by police in Cyprus following a disturbance on a flight.

Ian and Jill Mobley, from Northfield, were travelling from Birmingham International Airport to Larnaca.

The disturbance centred around an in-flight meal.

Holiday company Thomas Cook is now considering whether to prosecute the couple.

The captain radioed ahead for assistance and Cypriot police met the plane when it landed in Larnaca.

The Mobleys were arrested and taken to a nearby police station.

Thomas Cook said a number of passengers were distressed by the incident and it is considering whether to press for the couple to be prosecuted in Cyprus.

Spokesman Sean Robinson said the company operated a zero tolerance policy: "The main reason cabin crew are on board the aircraft is for the safe operation of the aircraft.

"If something had happened elsewhere on the aircraft they could not have responded.
