A man jumped from a first floor window to escape a fire at a house in Bedford on Friday morning.
The blaze, thought to have been started deliberately, began just before 0600 BST.
The fire service was called after flames were seen coming from the house in Needwood Road.
The mid-terraced house was completely engulfed in flames by the time four fire crews from Bedford and Kempston arrived.
One man, who has not been named, had to jump to safety from a first floor window. He was not seriously hurt.
Fire fighters using breathing apparatus managed to put the fire out witin half an hour but the house was severely damaged.
Fire investigation officers and police scenes of crime specialists are at the scene.
The cause of the fire is thought to be suspicious
